JAVA JUNKY
Words and Music by Howie Klausner and Ron Eng
Feeling a little low, feel a little run down
There's a place I've got to go a couple streets uptown
Where everybody knows my name
And everybody feels the same
About the fuel that runs the world
Gasoline for your brain
Well, he's a crazy little bean, but he tastes like a dream oh yaah
You just grind him up, pour him in your cup, that's flahhh
A little milk a little sugar, yayyy
What a way to start your day
It's not even nine, but the world's all mine
Whoo. I'm on my way
Java Junky, Ja -Java Junky. Java Junky, Ja-Java Junky
Java Junky, Ja-Java Junk, Java Junky
Some they like it black, some they like it brown
They knock a couple back, talk and hang around
I like it when it peels the paint. I like it when it curls my toes
I love it when my heart goes boom-boom-boom and it makes my head explode
Yemen, Sumatra, Antigua, Colombia too
The whole wide world loves the java and so do you
Fix it up your own way, take you right through your day
You work good, you look good, you feel good too,
You don't need so sleep anyway when you're a--
Repeat that chorus, baby, cos here comes the bridge--
Latte, espresso, Chai Tea (I guess so), oh cappuccino oh so fine
Freeze it blend it, make mine leaded--
Juan Valdez is a friend of mine. He's a--
Repeat chorus
Ron's caffeinated solo
And here comes that optional second bridge
One shot, two shots, three shots, four
My chest is caving in I can't do no more
Five shots, six shots, seven shots, eight
HURRY UP MAN I'M GONNA BE LATE! Feed your
Java Junky, Ja-Java Junky, etc.

PRODUCTION NOTES
"Java" came to me in line at a coffee shop. I'd recently discovered the place as a morning hideaway for an overdue script I was writing, so the place was new to me. So of course I was paying attention to everything but the work at hand. Anyway, other than the coffee lingo we all know and love, I noticed the same coffee pilgrims were in line with me that were there the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that... No hidden meaning here. I really just love the stuff, and it makes me laugh how it gets everybody's motor cranking--captured wonderfully by Ron's cup-by-cup tempo changes. He swears he never touches the stuff, but that solo doth make me wonder... It came out pretty much exactly the way it was intended. I love the old Manhattan Transfer stuff, the chorus got that perfectly. And no way that thing would've sounded right without horns. Most of the session work on this tune was wall to wall laughter.
