THE MORE THINGS CHANGE

Words and Music by Howie Klausner and Ron Eng

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
It's a shame, some things never change.

Well, I got more month at the end of the money, yeah.
I said, I got more month at the end of the money, yeah.
I gotta run from my mailman, and that ain't funny.

Repeat chorus

Well, I gave up drinking late last night, yeah.
I said I gave up drinking, yes I did, last night.
(at which point, my lovely and very insightful significant other offers):
But there's one more beer in the fridge.
(which the singer was not at all expecting, and conflictedly offers in return):
Well, that ain't right.

And let's repeat that chorus again
And, take it Ron.
Heck, take it again.

Well, I got me a plan, gonna make me a rich, rich man.
I said, I got me a plan, gonna make me a rich, rich man.
(and here comes that significant other who knows him better than he does:)
You know you've had it ten years
(and in typical defensive fashion he shoots back:)
Gonna get to it soon as I can.

Repeat chorus

PRODUCTION NOTES

This is the fastest song we recorded. It took an hour to lay down the rhythm tracks. Maybe we're all bluesmen at heart--and Lisa did just blow our socks off when she laid into me with that rant. You'd have to know how elegantly, and with such quiet dignity this very talented singer carries herself to truly appreciate the open mouths in the studio when she let fly at the end of the tune. I realize it's a little dicey to let a woman sound a bit naggish in these very sensitive times--but he's a loser, so I thought they kinda cancelled each other out. I think they're perfect for each other.
